Building Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Building Engineer to provide broad support across facilities at Asphalt Green Upper East Side; performing a wide range of repairs and maintenance to ensure the buildings and grounds are fully operational. This role is responsible for the safe handling of chemicals, system repairs, and equipment inspections, while promptly responding to general maintenance and repair requests from various departments. The Building Engineer ensures the smooth operation of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and pool systems, contributing to the safe and efficient functioning of the entire facility.
The Building Engineer reports to the Lead Engineer and indirectly to the Director of Facilities, is part of the Operations Team, and will be expected to work independently or with other engineers to address the ongoing needs of the facility.
Responsibilities:
- Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and structural systems to ensure operational efficiency.
- Safely manages chemicals for pools and cooling towers, complying with regulatory and safety standards.
- Utilizes Building Management Systems (BMS) for monitoring and troubleshooting and conduct audits and inspections for safety compliance.
- Provides daily updates on activities and collaborate with engineers and contractors to address operational needs.
- Monitors inventory of tools and materials, reporting shortages and assisting in procurement.
- Supports the facilities team in project planning, execution, and technical support for new installations, along with handling handyman tasks as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications for logging maintenance activities, managing reports, and tracking equipment performance.
- Assists with system repairs, installations, and special projects as needed outside regular working hours.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of Building Engineer experience in a commercial or residential building, with hands-on experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school training in HVAC, electrical, or mechanical systems preferred.
- Q-01 Refrigerating Operating Engineer Certificate required.
- EPA Universal Certification for Refrigeration Materials Handling or equivalent required.
- FDNY S-95, S-12, and S-13 certifications or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- OSHA 30 certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and after hours for emergencies.
