Held on May 3, 2014, Asphalt Green’s 19th annual The Big Swim was a roaring success! The Big Swim is a free swim meet and fundraising benefit that supports our community programs like our free learn-to-swim program Waterproofing. This year, we raised a record-breaking $750,000 and a total of 916 children participated in the swim meet!
During The Big Swim Meet, we welcomed children from all over the tri-state area to our Upper East Side campus. Swimmers had the opportunity to jump off the blocks into the Olympic-size pool for a fun, high-energy swim meet. Nearly every inch of the AquaCenter was packed with proud family members and friends watching their kids swim across the pool.
At The Big Swim Benefit, guests enjoyed a Kentucky Derby themed fundraiser luncheon including mint juleps! Children enjoyed face painting, arts and crafts, a bouncy house and martial arts. Olympic swimmer Jessica Hardy gave a speech where she discussed the importance of swimming and how it changed her life. Benefit guests gave generously to support a new Waterproofing site in Harlem.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the swim meet and all the volunteers! We are also extremely grateful for the support we received from donors, Asphalt Green’s Board of Directors, The Big Swim Chairs and Committee, and our corporate sponsors.
We’re excited for next year’s 20th annual The Big Swim! Don’t miss it, mark your calendars for Saturday, April 25, 2015!
