The Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics Swim Team finished their 2022-2023 season as overall team champions in the combined points category at the 2023 Eastern Zone Sectionals Championships for the first time in the program’s history and the AGUA women’s team won the championship for the first time since 2017.
AGUA athletes also set team records at the event. On the men’s team Ryan Kakimseit, David Sacca, Satya Agashiwala, and Eric Slavin together set an AGUA record when they finished first in the 200 medley relay. Heidi Wu, Carter Roebuck, Abi Greenberg, and Azana Karim set an AGUA record for the women’s 200 medley relay.
Heidi Wu from the women's team will join her teammate, Alegra Teixidor-Salerno, at the 2023 USA Swimming National Diversity Select Camp in Colorado Springs, CO. The camp accepts elite athletes from diverse backgrounds who have set top times in USA Swimming sanctioned events.
The camp is a three-day program designed to empower talented young athletes of diverse backgrounds to become positive leaders and role models in the sport of swimming. Activities include in-pool training, motivational and educational sessions, and team-building activities.
Heidi and Alegra join a distinguished list of AGUA swimmers who have attended the National Diversity Select Camp. AGUA athletes selected for this camp have all continued on to Division I NCAA competition, International Medals, USA Swimming National Junior Team selection, and Olympic Trials qualification.
