It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy! The sun is shining, school is almost out, and there is no better time to round up the neighborhood kids for a day of fun and fitness. Our Recess Enhancement Program (REP) coaches are experts on play, and we got them to dish on some of their favorite games!

Recess doesn’t have to stop when school is out! Put a fun spin on the classic game of tag with Band-Aid Tag.

BAND-AID TAG

Who: Grades 3 to 5

Players: 15+

Time: 15 minutes +

Where: Large playground

EQUIPMENT:

8 cones

SET-UP:

4 cones for the outside boundary
4 cones for the hospital

HOW TO PLAY:

  • Everyone is “it.”
  • Tag with 2 fingers above the waist.
  • When tagged use your hands to cover that area like a “Band-Aid.”
  • After 3 tags, go to the hospital and do 10 jumping jacks (or a funny dance or another movement) to “heal yourself” and rejoin the game.

GAME TIP:

Create another hospital zone if you have a larger amount of students.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION TIP:

Use Rock–Paper–Scissors to solve any arguments.

Switch to walking or hopping on one foot to take the energy down a notch and gain control.

HARD: Tag the ELBOWS only.
