Kids are taking initiative to give back by spreading their love of sports. Community Sports League flag football participants from Bea Fuller Rodgers Middle School volunteered to lead a clinic February 4 for elementary school students at P.S. 178 who participate in our Recess Enhancement Program.

Asphalt Green helped the middle school students organize and host the flag football clinic. Equipped with footballs, Bea Fuller Rodgers students led a variety throwing, catching, and defensive drills and games for elementary school students in P.S. 178’s gymnasium. With the Super Bowl approaching, it was a treat for the elementary school students to be playing with regulation-sized footballs.

The room was filled with positive energy from start to finish. Even the younger students—who were tentative at the beginning of the clinic—were all smiles by the end of the event. Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez even made an appearance to support the kids’ efforts.

Next stop: Bea Fuller Rodgers students will return to P.S. 178 to lead clinics on February 11 and February 25 to fulfill their community service hours, which are required to graduate.

We would like to thank the New York City Council for continually supporting our free community programs. The PIX11 news team was on site to cover the event. Catch all the action in the video here.
