Members of our competitive youth swim and soccer teams shared their passion for sports with the community on October 17. Our athletes volunteered teaching underserved children how to swim and play soccer.
A total of 19 athletes from our teams combined divided and conquered. Members of our Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics Swim Team assisted children in our free learn-to-swim Waterproofing program, and the Asphalt Green Soccer Club volunteered at the Roberto Clemente Soccer Program, a free clinic for kids ages 5 to 12 in the Bronx.
Kids from the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center filled our Upper East Side pool, and AGUA Swim Team athletes (Senior Prep and above) were quick to assist our Waterproofing instructors. Even AGUA Swim Team head coach David Rodriguez jumped in the water to help out! Kids had a blast splashing around in the water, and the program ran smoothly thanks to Waterproofing manager Elan Deusing, site supervisor Roberto Cedeno, and AGUA ambassador Betsey Bennett.
Uptown in the Bronx at Roberto Clemente State Park, Asphalt Green Soccer Club volunteers (U14 and above) were busy teaching fancy footwork and organizing games for kids. Sponsored by Omni New York LLC, it was all smiles for children learning how to play the world’s most popular sport. Kelvin Martinez, the site supervisor, coordinated the activities and worked with our volunteers to ensure the day went as planned.
It was a beautiful day for sports and fitness! Our volunteers brought us closer to fulfilling our mission of an active lifestyle for all New Yorkers. A huge thank you to Omni New York LLC for making the free soccer program possible, the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center for coordinating with families in the area, and to all our volunteers for their dedication!
