Asphalt Green had an excellent showing at the U.S. Masters Swimming Spring National Championships, held April 28 through May 1 in Greensboro, N.C. In the most competitive short course meet of the season, the team finished 28th out of 181 programs from around the country in a field that included many former Olympians.
All Asphalt Green swimmers showed a lot of heart and posted season-best times. Highlights include 27 top-10 performances from athletes ages 24 through 83. At age 60, Karen Einsidler took home first-place titles in the 500-yard, 1,000-yard, and 1,650-yard freestyles.
Asphalt Green had 17 athletes competing, the best turnout at the spring championships since 2012! Preparation for the meet focused on building endurance and speed, increasing intensity throughout the season before a lower-intensity taper period two weeks prior to the event.
