Asphalt Green took a big step in expanding its senior fitness offerings. Step It Up—a free event—kicked off a new partnership with Union Settlement to provide programming that promotes healthy living at its senior centers in New York City.

Step It Up was a preview of more high-quality offerings to come. Held at Union Settlement, the morning started with Zumba led by Sammy Salazar, one of New York City’s most popular instructors. The room was packed with seniors on their feet, moving and shimmying to the beat. After a quick break with refreshments, Margaret Yuen—founder and director of Chinese dance company Red Silk Dancers—took command of the room, leading a Chinese ribbon dancing class.

The energy was high throughout the event, and all participants left with giveaways.

We love celebrating our fit and active seniors and are looking forward to introducing our lineup of excellent programming this season. Next up: Senior Field Day at Asphalt Green in September. Stay tuned for details.
