Participants in Asphalt Green’s Roberto Clemente soccer program experienced what it’s like to play in a recreational league at our first jamboree on June 4.

The Roberto Clemente soccer program, sponsored by Omni New York LLC, gives kids ages 5 to 13 from underserved communities in the Bronx the opportunity to learn how to play the world’s most popular sport for free. We invited the children and their families to Asphalt Green’s Upper East Side campus for a day of soccer fun.

The day was a success with 32 children from the program placed on teams from our recreational leagues. The kids practiced with their new team, completed drills, and got to know the other players before organized matches began on our regulation-size turf field. About 200 players from our leagues participated and welcomed their new teammates with open arms.

Parents watched with pride as the organized matches got underway. Several Roberto Clemente players found the back of the net, experiencing the thrill of scoring a goal for the first time in a refereed game.
