Q: How long have you been working at Asphalt Green?
A: I’ve been working at Asphalt Green for two years.
Q: What do you do at Asphalt Green? What are some of your responsibilities?
A: I offer complimentary Pilates orientations to all members, teach Pilates group exercise classes and private lessons, and develop new workshops and classes.
Q: What is your favorite aspect of working at Asphalt Green?
A: I enjoy seeing a full spectrum of age ranges from the community using the facility at the same time.
Q: What is one of your fondest memories of working at Asphalt Green so far?
A: I appreciate any time I can grab an unscheduled swim in the pool.
Q: How did you get into the fitness industry?
A: I started teaching modern dance classes at a YMCA while pursuing a degree in dance in Seattle, Washington. I am also a certified instructor in Pilates for STOTT PILATES®, Yamuna Body Rolling, Patanjali yoga, Garuda Matwork, kettlebells, TRX, and personal training.
Q: What is your favorite exercise?
A: My favorite exercises vary. I enjoy anything I have not tried in a while or something new. It depends how I’m feeling that day!
Q: What are your gym pet peeves?
A: My pet peeve is the age-old conundrum of men generally not taking yoga or Pilates-type classes and women generally taking only Pilates or yoga-type classes. Becoming a slave to any one form of exercise, sport, or activity will ironically limit your long-term enjoyment of that very endeavor.
Q: What is your favorite fitness tip or advice for new gym goers?
A: Find activities you enjoy. Once you feel comfortable, challenge yourself to try new classes and/or exercises you were not initially attracted to. You just might be surprised by how well you perform and how good you’ll feel.
Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?
A: I sleep in until 6am on Sundays!
Stay tuned for part two of this staff spotlight series, where Eric will show you how to master one of his favorite Pilates exercises!
