“Work works,” that’s the motto of head coach Brian Brown. Under his stewardship, our AGUA swim team has become one of the most competitive swim teams on the East Coast. Our talented coaching staff brings a wealth of competitive experience, innovative coaching techniques, and boundless enthusiasm to the entire team. Our swimmers show sportsmanship, dedication and drive, and the results are terrific. We’ve already qualified 7 swimmers for the 2008 Olympic Trials and our swimmers compete at all levels, from Zone Teams to Senior Nationals and beyond.

AGUA Finds Success in June
AGUA had a very successful month of June at the Barcelona Mare Nostrum
Meet in Barcelona, Spain from June 9 and 10, and at the Santa Clara
International Grand Prix from June 17-20.
Barcelona Mare Nostrum Meet
Senior Team swimmers Lia Neal and Annie Zhu competed in the Mare Nostrum
Meet as members of the United States National Youth Team.
Lia raced against many of the best sprinters in the world in the
100-meter Freestyle. Lia took first in the Consolation Final, beating
11-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin and swimming faster than half
of the competitors in the Championship Final, including Olympians Kara
Lynn Joyce and Dana Vollmer. In the final, Lia dropped more than more
than a half second off of her prelim time.
Annie took 10th place overall in the 200-meter IM. She placed 2nd in the
Consolation Heat and 10th overall with a lifetime best 2:16.25.Annie
qualified 15th in the Preliminaries for a spot in the Consolation Final.
Santa Clara Grand Prix
AGUA swimmers also performed well at the Santa Clara International Grand
Prix meet in California. Lia Neal and Lauren Morford achieved AGUA’s
first top-3 finishes in its seven year history of attending the meet.
Lia finished 3rd in the 50 Freestyle (25.51) and was narrowly touched
out by two Australian swimmer and no Americans in a time which was her
second best performance ever in the event. Lauren finished 3rd in the
1500 Freestyle (17:00.54).
Scholarships
Swimmers trying out for AGUA can also apply for Swim for the Future scholarships. In addition to financial need, recipients are selected based on their talent, dedication, and passion. Scholarship applicants should visit Swim for the Future to download and submit an application form by September 10, 2009. The scholarships honor the lives of Andrew Fisher and Doug Irgang, two Asphalt Green Masters swimmers who tragically lost their lives in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
